Tortilleria Nixtamal, Corona NY

Since moving to New Yorck City, I have been on a mission to find authentic Mexican food. I really want to emphasize the importance of the word authentic because New Yorkers were quick to point me to “Mexican” restaurants. The thing about being Mexican, is that you are automatically a tougher critic. Most New Yorkers I know have had “Mexican infused or inspired” Mexican food. I on the other hand, have had food prepared by people who don’t know anything else besides Mexican food.

Anyway, I found this great little restaurant called Tortilleria Nixtamal located in Corona, New York. I was so excited about it that out of all the delicious possibilities on the menu I ended up ordering buycarisoprodol.org the most basic thing my heart desired: Guacamole, horchata & Tacos.

I had read online that some people considered their Guacamole to be the BEST in New York. I’ve had my fair share of Guacamole in my life and I can’t say this is the BEST but it is pretty good. I love that the chips they serve it with are freshly made. Growing up Horchata was my “go-to” favorite drink, when I saw it was on their menu it was a no brainer to order one. For those of you not familiar, Horchata is a traditional beverage typically made out of Milk, vanilla and rice. All I have to say about it is that it is absolutely delicious and it was GREAT the way they make it here. I recommended it.

We ordered several tacos: al pastor, steak, barbacoa, shrimp, fish, & chorizo. I think the tortillas they used to make the tacos are freshly made, if they are not, they definitely taste like it which automatically enhances the taco’s taste. From all the different tacos we ordered my favorite were al pastor and chorizo! I wish I would have left more space for other dishes but I couldn’t control my excitement and I had a taco overload.

Despite ordering too many tacos, I had space for dessert, there is always space for that. I ordered their watermelon topped with strawberries, coconut shavings and chocolate syrup: GENIUS. I can’t explain the happy harmony created by the juicyness of the watermelon, the texture of the cocunut and the enhanced flavored the chocolate gave it. Whatever you do, make sure you order this on your next visit!

I was very happy with the place and I am definitely planning to go back and trying out their other dishes. If you are a fan of Mexican food give the place a visit next time you are in the area and let me know what your favorites meals are.

Happy Travels!
