Have you ever been online searching for flights and you suddenly come across fares that are too good to be true? You check, double check, make sure you are not dreaming and probably even Google the Airline. It is then you notice it is an actual airline and the fare is correct. Chances are you are looking at fares provided by Spirit Airlines.
When you ride a cab, if you eliminate the time it waits at lights and the traffic you sit in, do you think that $50 cab ride for a 15-20 minute commute is worth it? Of course you don’t! $50 on your own car will get you to your destination and back more than once. Spirit Airlines eliminates all of that and really just offers rates that will cover their fuel per person.
So, that’s great for the consumer right? Right, if you can travel lightly and by lightly I mean just a personal item (backpack)-lightly. If they were able to charge you for the oxygen you breathe during in flight chances are they would. However, since they can’t they do charge you for everything else. While other airlines allow you to bypass checking-in a bag by bringing a carry-on Spirit says “i see your carry-on and I’ll charge you $35”. Are you anything like me and love the window or isle seat? Well Spirit asks that you prove your love and put a bill on it. Yup: choose your seat if you would like but put your money where your mouth is.
Lastly, remember not to forget to print your boarding pass at home because printing it at the airport will cost you $10 before you can pass that TSA line.
So, next time you are contemplating on flying Spirit or not, take the fare, add the fees that apply and compare it to the lowest fare with another airline before getting mouse happy and clicking “book”.
As always,
Happy Travels!
