The Original Crab Shanty, City Island, Bronx NY

Are you a seafood lover like us? Then make your way to City Island on your next visit to New York. It is easy to forget to explore past Manhattan while visiting the big apple because the majority of things we hear about are centralized around the city. However, by taking the time to explore outside of it, you come across a lot of hidden gems some locals haven’t even ventured to.

City Island is a small island and a neighborhood less than 2 miles long that is now part of the New York City borough of the Bronx. To get here you can either drive up about 35-45 minutes or take public transportation which depending where you are, can take about 1-1.5 hours. Either way, it’s worth it.

If you walk down City Island Ave, you will come across several bars and restaurants. The majority of the restaurants provide fresh and delicious seafood. During this visit we stopped at The Original Crab Shanty.

You really can’t go wrong with anything you order at the Crab Shanty, but we suggest some of our favorites during this visit. Please note: The Shanty has plenty of seating, if you visit on a hot day however, make sure you don’t sit out in the back because there isn’t any A/C!

Drinks: Henny Colada $14 each but very worth it. Think of it like a Pina Colada crashed into a Hennessy Bottle.
