A Guide To Austin Texas

Food · Cocktails · Nightlife
Just a few reasons why you should consider visiting Austin Texas.
Below we go over a couple of suggestions for your trip.

Ps. Did you know Austin is a very popular destination for Bachelor and Bachelorette parties?

Where To Stay
You have the option to look into Hotels or Airbnbs. For this trip we opted to go with an Airbnb since we were a group of 4. You can get up to $40 OFF your first booking using our code HERE.
We stayed at this Airbnb in Downtown Austin, near “the 6th”. It was a great space for 4 people. There were multiple restaurants and bars to select from and everything was an easy walk or uber ride away. The area is pictured below.

Another good area to consider is South Of Congress. This area is buzzing with restaurants and bars. This Airbnb would be a great option, or this one here, just to give you an idea of what you will find. You can see the area pictured below:

What To Do
You have many options depending on the length of your trip. If you are here for just the weekend, a car rental won’t be needed as you can easily get around using Uber or Lyft. We were here 4 days and wished we had more time to explore around.

  • Zilker Park
  • You can spend the day here kayaking, canoeing or paddle boarding. You also have the option to hike or bike along the Lady Bird trail.

  • Barton Springs Pool
  • via austintexas.gov

Located in Zilker Park, during the hotter months you can come here and take a swim. The man-made pool is fed by a natural spring that keeps the water at a 68 degrees temperature.

  • Texas State Capitol
  • Lake Travis
  • You can take a day trip here, or plan to stay a couple of days. For a list of events and lodging options visit their website here.

  • Congress Avenue Bridge
  • People loved telling us to come here at Sunset to see the bats flying from under the bridge

  • Umlauf Sculpture Garden and Museum
  • Austin Reggae Festival
  • We planned our trip specifically to attend the Reggae Fest. It takes place in April every year. It’s a 3 day festival featuring great Reggae music, tons of vendors and chill vibes. If you want to attend, check out their website for details and make sure you buy your tickets in advance. We can’t wait to go back again next year.

  • Big Top Candy Shop
  • A kid’s dream! We came across our favorite candy when we were kids and other sweets we didn’t know about. If you have a sweet tooth, you will like it here!

  • Barton Creek Greenbelt
  • Great for those who love the outdoors. You can hike, swim, bike and rock climb

  • Hey Cupcake
  • Visit the truck for a delicious cupcake. It was so good!

  • Amy’s ice cream
  • A lot of people say this is the place to go to for ice cream in Austin, we will let you be the judge of that. Expect a line!

  • University of Texas Tower
  • Go up to their observation deck for some great views of the city.

  • Nickel City Bar
  • We loved everything about this old school looking bar! We hear they have great wings as well, we didn’t get to try them.

  • Academia
  • This IV league themed bar is a must for cocktails. Grab one or two drinks and then continue to try other options.

  • Garage Cocktail Bar
  • This hidden bar in a garage is serving up some delicious drinks. Worth checking out.

Tip: Looking for some night life options? Head to Rainy street where houses were renovated into bars. A lot of them play great music.

    Where to Eat
There are so many delicious options around Austin, below are just some we suggest.

  • Veracruz tacos
  • This is a friend’s favorite!

  • Torchy’s Tacos
  • There’s a liquor store down the street, this place is BYOB!

  • Las Cazuelas
  • We came across this Mexican restaurant after the place we wanted to go to was closed. It doesn’t get more authentic than this.

  • Food Park off of Barton Springs RD
  • Tons of options for you to select from

  • Ironworks
  • Did someone say BBQ? The ribs and the Mac N Cheese were delicious.

  • Surf & Turf Po’Boy

  • Holy Roller
  • The food and drink options here knocked our socks off. We loved their take on Shrimp N Grits and they have a drink menu with the 7 deadly sins as a theme. Don’t pass up on their “Trash Fries”!

  • Glorias
  • Latin food. Make sure you go during happy hour

  • Gabriela’s
  • Their shrimp tacos are a must. If you are a fan of Michelada’s try them here, they add a popsicle to it.
