Forewarning: the stairs are “closed” to discourage hikers from disturbing the neighborhood. Some people still go. If you’re one of them, play it safe.

Hike your way through this steep stairway hike. Anyone can attempt doing the hike just bare in mind that if you are out of shape it might just take you about 4-5 hours to complete from top to bottom. There are a number elevation platforms utilized as rest spots with views of the windward side of the island. Before heading here make sure you look up the access points to get to the stairs (for some pointers on getting there click HERE). One of my good friends, Shirley, a resident to the area, said they went at 2am to avoid being spotted by the guards.
Note: Mosquito repellant required along with a light jacket and headlamp.

Sharks Cove

Located on the North Shore of the island. This cove is protected therefore spear fishing is not allowed neither is catching or harming any of the marine life. On a clear summer day you can see 50 ft down. It is also recommended you enter the water during the summer months when the water is more calm and safe. Snorkel here to see many types fish and turtles. The corals are awesome. Be careful of the sea urchins, we recommend water shoes. Also, if this is your first time, be careful not to fall on the rocks!

Manoa Falls

This very easy 1.5-2 hour hike on a dry day, is where they filmed Jurassic Park. This is a jungle-like hike that leads to a waterfall with vertical drop of about 150 feet. The waterfall has a small water reservoir. If you want to experience a bigger waterfall, go after it rains. We recommend wearing shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Don’t forget your bug spray!

Waimea Bay

Located in Haleiwa in the North Shore it offers a nice white sand beach with a big jumping rock about 15-25 ft high. It’s a favorite spot for many surfers. On a clear day you can see straight to the bottom of the ocean floor. We would recommend it for anyone into big waves, cliff jumping or surfing.

Ko’olina

Located on the west side of the island. This is where the Disney Aulani resorts are located. Open to the public are 4 separate lagoons. Parking is difficult to find if you go o a weekend or holiday. Great for kids as there are no waves but plenty of snorkeling. There are eateries on the beach. They have a yummy pizza restaurant called Pizza Corner and it is New York style pizza. There is also a restaurant called Monkey Pod with great environment but the service and food are subpar for the prices.

Waianae

This is a side of the island that is still local. Tourist hardly ever come here. I think it’s because very few know about it. The water is a beautiful hue of blue and green and very clear. Beaches in this area are very clean. If you want to catch a beautiful sunset, this is the side of the island you want to go to.
